While a yeast infection is not limited to one area of the body, vaginal yeast infections among women are very
common and treatable and some say that yogurt and yeast infections work.
Before we talk about a cure, let’s first define what it is, is not and common causes.
For academic reasons, a yeast infection is not a STD although is can be transmitted sexually. A yeast infection
(Candidiasis) is the overgrowth of fungi or yeast (Candida albicans), which are present in the vaginal area. It is
good to know the cause(s) to stop re-occurring infections in the future.
Common causes of a yeast infection include: antibiotics, changes in diet, heat and moisture and tight clothing
around the crotch area. The good news is yeast infections can be treated with products found in your kitchen
or purchased at the grocery store. A yogurt and yeast infection combination can sometimes ease the suffering
and embarrasement caused by the infection.
One product which is very beneficial to helping eliminate and controlling Candidiasis is yogurt. When eaten on a
regular basis, it can control the fungi (Candida fungus), which is responsible for causing yeast infections. Also,
certain yogurts contain a known ingredient called “probiotics” which has been known to be very effective in
controlling the overgrowth of Candida. However, not all yogurt products are created equal. In order for this to be
effective, it must contain live cultures.
Natural plain yogurt is recommend because it does not contain the preservatives that kill the live culture. You
must check the label to be sure it meets this requirement. Eating about 8 ounces or a cup, on a daily basis, is all
that is needed. Many women apply the plain yogurt directly to the vaginal area using a tampon however, this
can be very messy.
One advantage to using yogurt is the expense. It is less expensive than prescription drugs and the side affects
are close to none, not unless you are allergic to dairy products.
If you find you are eating a lot of sugar products, eliminate the sugar from your diet. If you find you are
wearing jeans that are to tight, try a bigger pant size. If you are on a medication such as an antibiotic or you
are suffering from a severe yeast infection, its best to consult you physician.
